Staph. vs. Staph.
A very interesting study conducted at the University of Tübingen, Germany revealed that a compound produced by nasal Staphylococcus lugdunensis strains can inhibit colonization by Staph. aureus, and they called this antibiotic lugdunin. This is a rare example of human microbiota competing with one another via antibiotics and suggests that other new antibiotics might be identified as we continue to investigate the microbial communities in our bodies.
